Master of Business Administration - CPA MBA
Deakin course code: M702
Award granted Master of Business Administration
Duration 1- 2 years part time
Discontinuation of CPA MBA programme
KMDC has ended partnership with Deakin University from 2007 onwards. CPA MBA has been discontinued by CPA and Deakin from July 2006 and there will be no further intakes of students in CPA MBA after Semester 2, 2006. For those still unaware, the decision by the Board of CPA Australia to discontinue the CPA MBA programme is part of a change in its Postgraduate Strategy to streamline the pathway for postgraduate study available to members and to promote a single CPA brand. Deakin University will continue to recognise segments undertaken as part of the CPA Program even after 2006. It will offer full advanced standing directly into the Deakin MBA program.

Joint program with CPA Australia
Course overview
The CPA MBA is a joint program between Deakin University and CPA Australia. It is equivalent to the Deakin MBA, but has been tailored to meet the specific needs of CPA members. CPA members who have completed the CPA Program may receive up to five credits of advanced standing upon entry into the program and are only required to undertake seven more MBA units (three core units and four electives units) in order to complete the MBA.
Due to changes in the CPA Program itself, those commencing the CPA Program from 2004 onwards will receive up to six credit points of advanced standing. The extra credit point will be for an elective unit thereby only requiring the completion of three MBA core units and three MBA elective units in order to complete the CPA MBA.
This degree is offered in both full-time and part-time modes and can be undertaken on-campus at the Melbourne campus at Toorak or off-campus via distance learning.

Advanced standing
As graduates of the CPA program, students may receive five or six credits* of advanced standing for any CPA program segment they have passed. Students who have received an exemption for one or more CPA program segment will need to have their original reason for that exemption assessed to determine whether credit will also be given within the CPA MBA.
In addition, students can apply for additional credits of advanced standing for previous related studies at postgraduate level. Content and depth of those units for which you are seeking advanced standing must be equivalent to those offered at Deakin University and must be at postgraduate level.
In order to apply for advanced standing you will need to provide certified copies of your official transcripts along with relevant unit outlines.
