In Uncertain Times, Invest in Education and Prepare Yourself for the New Opportunities
We live in uncertain times. Global financial crisis, rapid changes...with financial markets so volatile and recession is on its way, even big companies are looking at cutbacks and layoffs to prepare themselves for economic storms. It’s a stressful time, and it is simply impossible to say whether you will have a job next month.
What should you do?
In those advanced countries, when there is a recession, you will notice that there is a huge increase in enrolment in universities and schools - working professionals are flocking back to schools to learn new things, to acquire new knowledge and new skills.. their strategy is simple and they are thinking long term: when the time is bad, then invest in education and prepare for the new opportunities ahead. By the time they graduate, the economic disaster will be history and their newly acquired skills or certificate or degree will definitely make them stay ahead of the rest.
“We're seeing an avalanche of applications," said Rutgers Business School Dean Michael R. Cooper. “Enrollment
in business schools has skyrocketed during every weak economic period in the last 30 years.” Read more http://business.rutgers.edu/files/nj_biz_nov08.pdf
CFP - A More Practical Alternative to MBA
If you or your friends are underemployed and/or want to improve your career prospects through education. Here is another suggestion. Obtain a certificate in financial planning and become a Certified Financial Planner. In an MBA program, you will learn (and soon forget) exciting things like “leadership” and “management”, all of which are better learned on the job. As a CFP, you will learn practical financial skills that you can apply for the benefit of others and for yourself. Read more on toughmoneylove.com
